注:药油涂入鼻腔时,应尽量涂进鼻腔深部。使用本法应持之以恒,尽量不要间断,治愈为止。备苍耳子40余粒，将其捶破放入锅中，倒入香油50克，用文火煎炸。待苍耳子炸枯时，用筷子夹出苍耳子，然后把锅内的油盛到碗中。待油冷却后，装入玻璃瓶备用。使用时，用消毒棉浸油少许，于每晚睡前塞于鼻腔内，每天1次，1周即可见效。
医学认为，慢性鼻炎内因以肺、脾、肾虚损为主，外因多以风寒侵袭或异气、异味刺激而诱发，目前国内外治疗这种病尚无特效药物，中医治疗有一定效果。苍耳为菊科一年生草本，苍耳果实名“苍耳子”，其味辛苦、性温、有小毒，入肺、肝经，《本草》记载此药有“蒸脑止涕”功效，具有发汗、散风湿、通鼻窍、止痛的作用，在民间和临床上作为鼻科要药，应用历史悠久，疗效确切，并为历版中国药典收载。

苍耳子鼻炎胶囊为我国卫生部药品标准中药成方制剂第十四册收载品种。但鉴于苍耳子有毒，临床用药不要过量，且必须经过合理、规范炮制。慢性鼻炎需长期用药者，要当心药物慢性蓄积中毒，其中毒症状为食欲减退、流涎、呕吐、腹泻、精神萎靡、常倒卧、口渴，严重者可见黏膜黄染。
